For most of the 20th Century, the Kekaha Sugar Mill was the centerpiece of agriculture on Kauai’s West Side. The mill, which employed several generations of local families, closed in 2000 when Hawaii’s sugar industry collapsed. Nearby, the U.S. Navy’s Pacific Missile Range Facility (PMRF) is now one of the area’s largest employers.
